Humira is prescribed for reducing the signs and symptoms and inducing as well as maintaining the clinical remission in patients who are with moderately to severely active Crohn's disease who have had an inadequate response to the conventional therapy. Humira is used in order to reduce the symptoms and induce the clinical remission in these patients in case they have also lost response to or are not tolerant to infliximab. Dosage: The recommended dose of humira for the treatment for crohn's disease is 160 mg initially on Day 1 (given as 4 adalimumab 40 mg injections in one day or as two 40 mg injections per day for 2 consecutive days), followed by 80 mg two weeks later (Day 15). Two weeks later (Day 29) begin a maintenance dose of adalimumab 40 mg every other week. Aminosalicylates or corticosteroids can be continued while on treatment with this drug. Azathioprine, 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) or MTX may be continued during humira injection uses, if necessary. Adalimumab (humira) specifically is a man-made antibody, made from the living cells, so it’s known as a biological drug. The adalimumab 0.5 mg targets a protein in the body named TNF-alpha, which is naturally produced by the body. It plays a crucial role in order to help your immune system fight against infections. But excess TNF-alpha may damage the cells lining the gut. This is thought to partly cause the gut inflammation of patients with Crohn’s disease. This medication binds to TNF-alpha, resisting its harmful effects as well as reducing inflammation. This helps in order to relieve the symptoms. Adalimumab can also be addressed as an anti-TNF medicine. How much does humira cost? The humira injection cost may vary from branded to non-branded drugs. Prices may range from around 16,000 INR to 25,000 INR. Storage Guidelines: Humira needs to be refrigerated at 2° to 8° C (36° to 46° F). Avoid freezing it. It is not recommended to be used if frozen even in case it has been thawed. While traveling, Humira needs to be placed/stored in the cool carrier with an ice pack. Prefilled syringes should be protected from exposure to the light. Store humira pen 40 mg in the original carton until the time of administration.
